Obituary For Allen Hatch
Gilbert “Allen” Hatch, 90, of Box Elder, SD, made his journey home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25th, 2023, while holding his wife Carol’s hand and surrounded with love. Allen was born on August 5th, 1933, to Hubert and Mae (Allen) Hatch in San Diego, California where he lived most of his young life. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean war veteran. While in the Air Force, he moved to South Dakota, where he met his wife, Carol, they were married on August 12, 1955. Together, they raised two children, David and Jennifer. Learning was a lifelong love. He earned a Master of Science in Natural Science from the University of Wyoming and attended other institutions where he earned degrees in Electrical Engineering and Animal Husbandry. Allen was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church, and community. He was an electrical contractor in the Rapid City area for over 40 years. Sharing his knowledge with his students at Oglala Lakota College down on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation was one of his proudest adventures. He later became an electrical inspector for the State of South Dakota. Devoting his time to educate anyone about the Bible or teaching the electrical trade, he loved to teach. He was always available to answer any question or solve a problem, no matter how small. Allen shared his love for milk cows with his son, and together they raised a small herd of cattle starting in the early ‘70s. You would often find him in the milk barn milking alongside David or Sheryl on their grade A dairy. He is survived by his wife Carol Hatch and his children: David (Sheryl) Hatch, Jennifer (John) Tippmann. Grandchildren: Dustin (Jayme) Hatch, Trevor (Alexa) Hatch, Alex Tippmann, Samantha Tippmann, Susan (Aaron) Dodd, Jennifer Lee (Micheal McPeak). Great Grandchildren: Tenleigh and Oakleigh Hatch, Rhett and Ridge Hatch, Audrey Zacher, Jackson, Aubrey and Saylor Dodd, Gage and Leeden McPeak. As well as countless extended family and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Mae Hatch, sister Ardith Dursma, granddaughter Cara and her husband, Jon Zacher. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation given in Allen’s honor to First Baptist Church or Love INC.
