Obituary For Anthony J. Kudrna

Anthony ‘Tony’ Kudrna, 102, Scenic, died Monday, January 22, 2018 at The Victorian in Rapid City. He was born January 18, 1916 at home to Josef and Marie (Loskota) Kudrna in Imlay, SD where he was raised and attended school through the 8th grade.

Tony ranched with his parents and brother Joseph and later his nephew Donald his entire life. He was a veteran of WWII where he served in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He was drafted March 1941 and was honorably discharged August 1945. He served in Australia and New Guinea. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and five overseas service bars.

He worked for the WPA on Sheep Mountain and part-time for the Standard Oil Company in Scenic delivering oil and feed. He served on the Scenic School Board for 10 years; 47 years on the Scenic Township Board as the clerk and also on the Scenic election Board and he was a member of the VFW Post 1273 for 50 years.

Tony is survived by 5 nephews and nieces, Otto Olsen, Emma Larsen, Fran Stensaas, Don Kudrna (Shirley) and Ann Olsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Marie, one brother Joseph, two sisters Ann Anderson and Helen Olsen and one niece, Margie (Gale) Shellito.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Scenic Fire Department in memory of Tony.
