Obituary For Barbara J Morris
Barbara Jean Morris, 86 of Rapid City, SD passed away on August 18, 2019. She was born on May 3, 1933 in Rapid City to Earl and Clara (Roots) Brown. On May 3, 1950 she married the love of her life, Samuel ‘Fred’ Fredrick Morris II. Together they had 4 children, Samuel Fredrick Morris III, Mitchel Earl Morris, Cherie Lynn Morris and Mark Alfred Morris. Fred and Barbara ranched until 1967 when the family ranch was sold. They moved into town to finish raising their family. Fred and Barbara started a construction company in 1970 that they operated together until 1981. In 1972, Barbara had to step away from the business for a short while when she had a brain aneurysm which she miraculously survived. She was an amazing, strong and determined woman. Although the medical situation and surgeries took their toll on her, she continued on with her husband Fred, taking care of her children and helped part time in the family business. In 1985 Fred and Barbara started traveling from coast to coast and border to border. They started out in a fifth wheel camper and went through multiple fifth wheels and motor homes. Finally, they settled in a retirement community in Brownsville, TX. Barbara was only 5’2” but she was the biggest, sweetest, most kind and humble woman that I have ever met. Barbara’s children, grandchildren and family were very important to her. Her husband Fred, her mom, dad and her sisters were especially important to her. She supported her family and children in everything that they did. After her children were grown, Barbara quit cooking and enjoyed eating out. Most days, she and Fred probably went to coffee 3 or 4 times a day. In the later years between the earlier medical issues and macular degeneration, she lost most if not all of her vision. Although she couldn’t see, she maintained remarkable well. Barbara always kept her house spotless and organized with her little markers and rubber bands to identify all of the things that we take for granted (all of us that can see). Barbara is survived by her children, Samuel Fredrick Morris III, Mitchel Earl Morris, Cherie Lynn Morris and Mark Alfred Morris.
