Obituary For Barbara J. Schroeder
Barbara Jeanne (Shinnick) Schroeder was born in Marshall, Minnesota, on March 20, 1948. She was the daughter of F. Lloyd and Bertha E. (Jordens) Shinnick. She graduated from Redfield (SD) High School in 1966 and South Dakota State University in 1970. She completed a Masters of Science in microbiology in 1972. Much of her career was spent as an officer of the Environmental Protection Agency. She pursued further education working with animals in later years.
Barbara lived in Denver for many years, raising her son, Peter Charles Schroeder. She chose to return to South Dakota and the Black Hills in her retirement years. She is survived by Peter and his wife Jessica and two children Austin and Colton all of Washington state. Her siblings are Fred (Tracy) Shinnick of San Diego and Anella (Clayton) Southwick of Rapid City. Barbara was preceded in death by her father in 1979 and her mother in 2023. Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home is trusted with arrangements. Please support the Humane Society of the Black Hills in her memory.
