Obituary For Betty Lue Carlson

Betty L Carlson, 85, Hot Springs, died Friday May 4, 2018.

Betty was born July 1, 1932 to Walter and Luella (Williams) Jackson in Crawford, NE. The family later moved to Belle Fourche where she graduated high school. After high school, she moved to Rapid City where she attended the National College of Business and upon receiving her degree she worked for the Sears & Roebuck Company in the accounting department. On November 13, 1960, she married Myron Carlson in Rapid City. They moved to Mobridge, SD where she tended bar along with her husband. Three years later they moved back to Rapid City. In 1965 they moved their growing family to Hill City to own and operate the Custer Toy Store. She then went to work for the city managing the Hill City liquor store with her husband for the next four years. She later worked for the local newspaper the Hill City Prevailer for many years. She also worked for the Mt Rushmore KOA Campground as a bookkeeper until she retired. In 2014 she moved to Hot Springs to be closer to family. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Vicki Phipps, Sioux Falls; Toni and husband Les Madsen, Hot Springs; 2 sons, Mike and wife Kim Carlson, Rapids City; Steve and wife Molly Carlson, Grand Rapids, MI; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother Neil Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Myron Carlson April 5, 2006; 1 son Richard Phipps, May 10, 1980; 1 brother Garold Jackson January 21, 2003; and her parents.
