Obituary For Burl Morgan

Burl D Morgan passed away on Saturday January 7, 2017. He was born in Phillip SD to Byron W. and Dorothea Anna (Clodt) Morgan on February 19, 1930. He lived at Milesville until mid 1931, and then moved to the community of Hisle, near Martin where his folks homesteaded and farmed. The dust bowl hit and they were forced to move cattle and machinery to Williams’ ranch where they farmed for approximately 1 year then to the Headley ranch where they leased the store and his dad was appointed Postmaster by President FDR. After three years they bought the Farmingdale SD store where his dad remained Postmaster for 37 years. Burl went to grade school at Headley Ranch, Farmingdale and high school at New Underwood, graduating in 1948. There he met his love Dorothy Wollensack and they were married on August 5, 1950. They had two sons Dennis D and Bruce L. He spent two years in the Army Chemical Corps in Wisconsin and Alabama 1951-1953. After being honorably discharged from the army he worked for Atlantic Oil, traveling the southwest and North Dakota before moving to New Underwood SD for a few years before settling in Rapid City. There he worked for JD Evans and Barber Transportation. In 1974 he and Dorothy designed and built their home in Rapid City.Burl was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and his parents, Byron and Dora, brother Dean, and a sister Doreen. He is survived by two sons Dennis and Bruce, brother Don, 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
