Obituary For Carl Calvin Garreaux Jr.

Carl Calvin Garreaux Jr. “CJ”, born October 22nd 2001, made his journey to the spirit world March 20th 2021. CJ was raised in Rapid City, SD. He was born to Kristine Martinez and Carl Calvin Garreaux Sr.

CJ was blessed with a large and loving family. He was a Mama’s Boy to the fullest and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. CJ was one of a kind. His laugh, personality and humor, and everything about him was contagious. He excelled at anything he did and was smart, walking at only 8 months and saying his abc’s just barely over 1 year old. He would sing the song “Picture” by Kid Rock and Cheryl Crow. He was known for having a baby face and gorgeous smile.

CJ enjoyed being with family and friends. His favorite things to do were skateboarding, video games, cooking and beating up his little sister McKenzie who so many thought was his twin, even though they are exactly 3 years and one day apart. He was very protective of all his siblings but most of all of her, his baby sister Kenzie.

His favorite singers were Wiz Khalifa and NBA YoungBoy. He an adventurous person and the Black Hills was the place he loved to be, and allowed him to be free with his friends who meant the world to him and would do anything for him. He was the most lovable, kindhearted person and to know him was to love him.

He had a special relationship with his grandpa Cris Martinez, their bond was unbreakable. Grandpa is the heart and soul of our family and he took care of him in any way he could.

CJ is survived by his parents; sisters Santana Martinez, Raven Brown, and McKenzie Garreaux; brothers, Jesse Brown, Tucker Garreaux, and Julian Houston; nieces and nephews, Kaden Martinez, Deven Martinez, Brooklynn Houston, Kasen Hernandez, Kato Uribe, Kayliah Uribe, and K’moni Brown; uncles Tyrell Garreaux Sr., Doug (Jeanna) Seymour, Blain (Suzie) Seymour; aunts, Anita (Alford) Thompson, Carla (Todd) Lawrence, Lavanda Martinez, Cindy Martinez; and special friend Taran Murphy.
