Obituary For Carmen Carlotta Aigner

Carmen Carlotta Abbey Aigner passed away on July 29, 2021, at her home in Rapid City, surrounded by family members.

Carmen was born in Witten, South Dakota, to Henry and Florence Abbey, on August 12, 1924. She went to schools in Witten and Tinton, South Dakota, through grade 8, and graduated from high school in Spearfish, South Dakota in 1942. She then attended National School of Business in Rapid City, and worked for Rushmore Mutual for several years. Carmen married Harry William Aigner, Jr. on March 6, 1948. They raised eight children together. After living in Rapid City for several years, the family moved to the ranch in Piedmont in the early 60’s. In 1970, the ranch was sold and another one was purchased near Mud Butte. The family lived in Newell, where Carmen was active in many church and community organizations. Carmen moved back to Rapid City in 1980. She worked at Gary’s Flowers and Gifts in Rapid City until 1997. She loved getting dressed up and going to work every day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Avis Schultz and Arlis Burns, and her husband Harry W. Aigner, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Knudtson (William, deceased), Sandra Fields (Lynn), Pamela Aigner, Michael Aigner, Micaela Aigner-Jacobs, (Gary, deceased), Jeffrey Aigner, Todd Aigner (Jenny), and Lisa Aigner, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Meals on Wheels of Western South Dakota and Home Hospice of Monumental Heath, Rapid City, South Dakota.
