Carole Lee Henrietta Knight, an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, departed this world on September 18th, 2020. Carole was 80, and even though that time on this earth was short, each person that knew her, recognized that she was an incredible, generous, thoughtful, respectful, and loving individual. Carole was brought into this world at the family farm in Avon, South Dakota on October 25, 1939, to Henry and Leonida Schwarz. She had 4 siblings: Delores, Arnold, Charlotte, and Rosetta. She graduated from Avon High School in 1957. Carole went on the graduate with a Secretarial Degree from Springfield, South Dakota. On August 29, 1961, Carole married John Walter Knight. Shortly after, she flew to where John was stationed in Okinawa. Through their unrelenting love and dedication, they created four wonderful children: Mark, Debbie, Kristie and Trent. Carole chose to be a strong mother and wife. As the spouse of a military man who had several tours away from home for a year at a time, she had to rely on herself to make decisions as letters to her husband took weeks before they were answered. No quick phone calls, as at times the closest phone was several miles away. Letter writing was very important to Carole and she treasured letters and cards sent to her. Often she worked while raising her children, and was supportive of her husband and his long hours with the Air Force. Carole understood life was not supposed to be easy and she faced it head on. Many people knew Carole in the Black Hills area as she worked for the Black Hills Federal Credit Union for 23 years. Often, members would approach her out in public to say hello to her, even after her retirement. Carole found time to spend with her family and friends, enjoyed having a laugh and being silly. She was devoted to her family and talked with them often. Carole always informed those closest to her of the positive events in all of our lives, made sure we knew when something important was happening in the family, and who to pray for. She would not waste time with gossip, choosing to instead contribute a love that was beyond measure. Carole read her devotions often and talked about God with her children. She held no judgment, even though she did enjoy talking some politics. Carole left this world at peace with herself and all those around her. Family and friends are gathering at The Foundry located at 730 Quincy Street in Rapid City, South Dakota at 1pm on Thursday, September 24, 2020 for a Celebration of Life service. A burial eulogy with immediate family at the rotunda (as we are limited to 20 people) at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota will take place Friday, the 25th at 10am and a larger unlimited gathering at the burial site at noon.
