Charles Rudolph Ollila Jr. January 28th, 1953 -April 13th, 2021 Charles “Chuck” Rudolph Ollila Jr. (68) passed away on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 after succumbing to trauma injuries from an accident outside his home. Chuck was born on January 28th, 1953 in Newcastle, WY to Rudy and Marge Ollila. Chuck was the jack of all trades and lived his life by helping others whenever needed. This long dedication of service unquestionably began early. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1971, serving until the end of Vietnam in 1974. Chuck met his lifelong best friend and love, Alice, in 1970 when they were neighbors. They were married on June 24th, 1972 while Chuck came home on leave to help with the 1972 flood clean-up. They had two children, Kris in 1973 and Becky in 1976. After his term in the Air Force, Chuck served in the Army National Guard through 1977. From there he began a lengthy career as a driller in the oil fields of Wyoming that lasted through 1986. Chuck had a natural aptitude for working with his hands and helping others. Chuck made multiple attempts to retire, but his work ethic and drive to help others kept bringing him back to work. He found one of his greatest joys in being able to help others solve unique problems; there was not a challenge too big for him to try to tackle. From helping his neighbors, doing handyman tasks for his uncle, being moving buddies with his granddaughters, working in the garage with his son, or developing project management plans with his daughter, he served each one of them out of unconditional love. This dedication was clear up to the end. Chuck died as he had lived, with his boots on. Chuck was also a dedicated family man. He had many loves in life, but of the foremost were his children and grandchildren; he always showed up for and spent time with them. His favorite family pastimes included playing basketball in his driveway and going on travel adventures. Summer quests often included taking trips to the Grand Canyon, going to Yellowstone, or venturing to see Chuck’s dad. Chuck lived for the little moments where he could tickle his grandkids, dance with his granddaughters, sing dee-tuh-dee while bouncing and shooting them into the air, or what he was BEST known for—giving a blanket of love wrapped in his hugs. Being a papa gave him a purpose that was unmatched by anything else in his life, which all began with Torri. These are all things that those who knew him best, will undoubtedly miss. Chuck is survived by his wife of more than 48 years, Alice; son Kris (Sandy) Ollila and their children Mason and Summer, KaTrina, Daniel, Brayden; daughter Becky Baker and her children with Duane, Torri, Abbi, and Cade; 3 sisters and their spouses; two brothers; and numerous extended family and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Marge Lister and Rudy Ollila, sisters Betty Jean Ollila and Carolyn Wertz, and grandson Dylen Ollila In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in Chuck’s name to a scholarship fund for Peace Lutheran Pre-school. For ease, cash can be given to or checks can be made out to Alice Ollila who will send the money into the church in a lump-sum donation. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. (MST), Friday, April 23, 2021 at Behrens Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. David Lindenberg officiating. Private family inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with the VFW American Legion Honor Guard providing honors. A celebration of life re-past luncheon will be held for all family and friends to gather beginning at 2:00 p.m. (MST) at Peace Lutheran Church 219 E. St. Anne St. Rapid City, SD.
