Obituary For Charles T. Dockter

Charles Dockter, 72, of New Underwood SD died at his home of natural causes July 26.

He was a Vietnam War veteran and active second-generation member of the New Underwood American Legion Post.

He was born at Eureka SD and completed high School at New Underwood. His friends and associates knew him as ‘Chuck’ or ‘Doc’

Chuck entered the US Army in 1969 and right after basic training and advanced individual training at Ft. Sill OK, he went to Vietnam where he served in the fire direction center of the 3rd of the 82nd Artillery Battalion. Following his military service, he became a heavy equipment operator with Pennington County and continued there until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Atlanda Dockter, a brother Gordon and infant sister Gwen, all who had been residents of New Underwood. The only immediate family member surviving him is his sister Carol (Mrs. Lester) Stadig of Richmond VA. Other survivors include a niece Leslee (Eric) Wallace, two nephews, Paul (Lauren) and Wade (Denice), 7 grandnieces and 6 grandnephews all living in Virginia and several first cousins.

    I spent many days after school in my youth hanging out with Chuck and the New Underwood branch of the Pennington County Highway Department as my Dad worked his career with him. He had lots of stories for me or a hardy chuckle and science experiments. As I grew, he always had a kind word or just checked in and let me know he was there.
