Obituary For Christian D. Peschcke-Koedt

Christian Du Val Peschcke-Koedt passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on November 1, 2023, in Santa Fe, NM at the age of 64. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 17th, at Behrens Wilson Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City. A small family gathering will take place at the family residence after services.

Christian was born on June 2, 1959, in Palo Alto, CA to father Rene, and mother Birgit (Ditter Hassel) Peschcke-Koedt. Growing up with his two sisters in Palo Alto, Christian loved hanging with his Addison Street friends and his dog Jeremiah. He graduated from Palo Alto High School, followed by Colombia College Culinary Institute in Sonora, CA. He met Gloria Wright in California in 1987, and the two would go on to share a daughter, Corey.

Christian had a passion for cooking which led him to work in kitchens and live in many beautiful places throughout his life including Jackson Hole WY, and in Denmark, and also being published in the cookbook Cooking Across America. He was also a skilled carpenter, handyman and poet. Cooking, country music, and Gloria (the mother of his daughter Corey), were the great loves of his life. Christian was the type of person who could strike up a heartfelt conversation with anyone who came in his path. He very much cared for others, had a wonderful sense of humor (much like his father\'s), and saw the odd beauty in so many beings and places He was a kind and sensitive soul, who made an impact on those who knew and loved him. He was a beloved father, partner, brother, son, grandfather, and friend to many.

Christian is survived by his partner Gloria Wright, daughter Corey Wright, son in law Brian Page, grandson Samson Page, granddaughter Louisa Page (Rapid City), sisters Lisa Peschcke-Koedt and Nina Peschcke-Koedt, and brother-in-law Bill Koopman (Palo Alto). He is preceded in death by his parents Rene and Ditter Peschcke-Koedt.

Christian was my first cousin ( Danish: fætter) and I grew up knowing of my American part of the Hassel family through my dad's sister, Ditter. All three children - Lisa, Nina and Christian - were wonderful in their own very distinctive ways when I'd meet them on summer vacations in Hellebæk. Christian lived in Denmark for quite a while as an adult and that's where I got to know him better. He loved living by the sea and always had a kind and gentle energy about him. I think the great conundrum of living in this harsh but beautiful world of ours was always a challenge for Christian, but he found his own way and truly loved his wife and daughter as well as the ways of a traveler. We've lost a beautiful soul. Rest in peace, dear fætter. - Posted by Lukas Hassel and Petros Levounis on November 16, 2023
