Christina “Tina” Haukevina Hellbusch Umfrid, a resident of Llano, TX, passed away peacefully Thursday the 9th of April 2020 at Clarkson Mt View Health Care in Rapid City, SD. She was 98 years old.
Tina was born on December 18, 1921 in Clay County, TX, the oldest of three sisters. She lived and worked with her father and mother on the Hellbusch family ranch until she met Edmund Umfrid while visiting family in Llano. She and Ed were married three months later on December 22, 1948.

Tina and Ed worked their ranch in Llano, raising three children, Elton, Ronald, and Carol. They were married for 33 wonderful years until Ed passed away in 1981. Tina and Ed owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Llano for many years. After retirement, Tina performed home health care assistance for the elderly. She loved her home church, St. Paul Lutheran in Wichita Falls, TX, where she was a member for 28 years.

Crocheting and quilting were her lifelong passions. She created many beautiful blankets, colorful afghans, and rugs that will comfort her family for years to come. Her fondest memories were from time spent ranching with her sisters, and of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved visiting her relatives and friends and people she knew. When she visited her daughter in Germany, they searched for relatives there as well. She had fun taking tours through Europe, including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and France. She often told the story of Willie Nelson and his friends from a nearby ranch eating at her cafe.

Tina loved socializing, being with her children and their families. She will be remembered as a sweet mother and grandmother who always had a hug and a smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund W. Umfrid, two sisters, Eldora Carlson and Ruth Hoepfner. She is survived by sons Elton Umfrid and Ronald Umfrid of Llano, TX, and daughter Carol (Arnold) Jordan, Rapid City, SD, grandchildren, Stephan Umfrid, Briton (Sarah) Jordan, Patricia (Frank) Marso, Mary (Eric) Poland, Virginia (Johnathan) Ackerman, and numerous great grandchildren.
