Obituary For Craig Robert Fischer

Craig Robert Fischer, age 69 of Rapid City, SD and formerly of Garrison, ND went home peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Craig was born on September 18, 1952, in Garrison, ND to James “Jim” and Colleen (Posey) Fischer. He grew up on the family’s farm northwest of Garrison and was raised by Jim and Elaine (Geiszler) Fischer. Craig graduated from Garrison High School in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1971-1975 and served during Vietnam aboard the USS Niagara Falls as a Hull Maintenance Technician. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Eslinger, on August 18, 1973. They lived in Oakland, California until 1975 when they returned to Garrison and had their first child. They lived in multiple towns in the area, wherever work could be found. Craig had a knack for being able to fix anything. They eventually settled back in Garrison where they raised their three boys. Phyllis passed away on February 25, 1998. Craig moved to Rapid City, SD in 2001. On October 13, 2001, he married Marilyn Abe of Minot, ND. Craig and Marilyn resided in Rapid City, where they were raising two of Marilyn’s grandchildren. Craig liked spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed classic cars, and would spend time at his brother’s auto body shop. He often checked out car lots with his boys late at night. The family dog, Sam, was his shadow. Craig also enjoyed sharing his faith through scripture. Craig is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Jody (Erin), Fargo, ND, Jason, Rapid City, SD, Joshua (Nichole), Rapid City, SD; and seven grandchildren, Katlyn, Jordan, Aliyah, Hayvn, Hudson, Harrison, and Elin; six siblings, Colin (Kathy) Fischer, Garrison, ND, Keven (Lisbeth) Fischer, Paradise, TX, Kileen “Suz” (Tom) Trueblood, Hoyt Lakes, MN, Connie Fischer, Rapid City, SD, Kent “Buck” (Tricia), Bismarck, ND, and Kelly Fischer, Garrison, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. Craig was preceded in death by his parents Colleen, James, and Elaine; and his wife, Phyllis. In the interest of keeping family members and friends healthy, face masks are encouraged.
