Obituary For Danny Louis Ewing

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Dany ‘Dan’ Ewing, on August 24, 2024. He was born in St. Martin, France on February 4, 1946, to Charles Louis Ewing and Jacqueline Fournier. He was raised in Rapid City, South Dakota and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1965.

Dan was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic and gunner on the UH-1 Helo. He was proud of his service to his country and loved his country deeply. He was a proud Vietnam veteran and was always telling jokes to make people laugh, even in his final hours. He was a man of great integrity, who always stood up for what was right and was a true patriot.

Dan married the love of his life, Paula Ann Ewing, on March 24, 1973. They were happily married for 51 years until Paula's passing on March 20, 2024. Together they had two sons, Jon Patrick Ewing and Louis Charles Ewing, and were proud grandparents and great grandparents. Dan was a hardworking man, who worked as a furniture mover for Allied Van Lines and later as a hot shot truck driver. In his later years, he worked for Black Hills Workshop, driving handicapped adults to work. He was a man of many talents and was loved by many.

Every time he met someone, he always shared a joke and gave the person a hug before they left. He wanted people to know how much he cared about them. He was a great listener and always made time for his loved ones. In his free time, Dan loved fishing and watching old westerns. He was also a big fan of Elvis Presley and Pat Boone and loved singing their songs.

A celebration of Dan's life will be held on September 23, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Behrens Funeral Home, followed by a military burial at Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00 pm, next to his best friend and beloved wife, Paula Ann Ewing.

Dan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving man who will always be remembered for his jokes, his love for his country and his family, and his service to his country. Rest in peace, Dan.

Sorry to hear of Danny's passing. I grew up across the street from his Grandparents and he was always there. I remember sitting on their porch while Danny tried to teach me Chess. He was always happy and loved to joke around. May he rest in peace 🙏 Kathy Kemble
