Doris Brodrick, 94, of Rapid City, died peacefully in her home January 3rd, 2022. Doris was born April 8, 1927 in Crawford, Nebraska. She received a rural education and graduated from Oelrichs High in 1945. Following graduation, an opportunity to receive a higher education came along as she attended Nursing College at the University of Nebraska under the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps program. After graduating from college, she met Julian Brodrick and the two were married on September 4, 1949. Together they started their new life in Chardon, NE where she started working as a nurse. While in Chadron they began a family with two sons, Van and Mark. In 1957 they moved to Rapid City. After moving to Rapid City, Doris began working at the Rapid City Hospital until 1963, then she took a job over at Sioux San IHS, where she worked until 1979 and retired from nursing. While a nurse, she enjoyed helping others and prided herself in being a woman who was educated in medicine. Doris has been a member of First Baptist Church and participated in several church circles upon retiring from nursing to keep herself active. In 1999, Doris and Julian celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends. After the passing of her husband in 2003, Doris gravitated towards her hobbies and interests. Doris was a charter member of the Black Hills Doll Club, avid doll collector, and designing dolls in which she would paint their faces, do their hair, and sewing their outfits to match the era in which they were made. As a lifelong artist, specializing in China Plate Painting, she entered many pieces to the Central States Fair, with many of her pieces being awarded best of class and best of show. While she was not known for her cooking, she could bake homemade bread and a delicious chocolate cake all from scratch. Her ideal day of shopping included going around town to various thrift shops in search of that hidden gem. She knew the value of the items and always appreciated a good bargain. Doris was especially grateful for her family and their ability to care for her while living independently in her home. Her generosity and love will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Julian and son Van. She is survived by her son Mark (Cheryl) Brodrick, Granddaughters Sherry Brodrick, Abby (Tyson) Karn and Jillian (Logan) Uhrig and three Great-Grandchildren Lily, Van and Jordy Karn. The family wishes memorial contributions be made to Black Hills Doll Club.
