Obituary For Edward Victor Brunner

Edward Victor Brunner was born Mar. 27, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Carl and Anna Brunner. He was one of ten children. When Ed was a child, the family moved to South Dakota.

While living in Nisland with his sister Emma and working on the farm, Ed met the love of his life, Laura Irene Carlson. The two were married on April 29, 1945 and they moved to the farm where they had six children: Bruce Edward, Donely Dee, Gary Lee, Kevin Ward, Dean David and Lana Irene, their only daughter.

In the late 1950’s, Ed started selling life insurance, and a few years later, his sons were old enough to take over the main share of the farm work, allowing him to focus on insurance. Ed sold insurance for over 40 years before retiring to travel with his wife.

After retirement they traveled a great deal and spent winters in Arizona. In 2005 they returned to live in the Black Hills area permanently to be closer to family members. In 2009 they moved to Newell to an elderly housing complex with daily care provided by family members.

Laura went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 1, 2011 and Ed soon moved to the Belle Estates assisted living facility in Belle Fourche where his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren continued to visit him until the time of his passing.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Edward joined his Lord and Savior and was reunited with his loving wife Laura.

He leaves behind all six of his children: sons, Bruce (Colleen) Brunner, Newell, Donely (Mary) Brunner, Brule, Neb., Gary (Aileen) Brunner, Nisland, Kevin (Charita) Brunner, Custer, Dean (Julie) Brunner, Belle Fourche; daughter, Lana (Don) Couch, Cypress, Texas, 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Laura Irene (Carlson) Brunner and all nine of his siblings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the memorial established to Gideons International, an organization Ed was heavily involved in for most of his life. Condolences and further information requests may be sent to Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD. Contributions to the memorial may be sent to Bruce Brunner, 18344 SD Hwy 79, Newell, SD 57760.

Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements and condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.behrenswilson.com
