Obituary For Elaine Isabelle Wick
Elaine Isabelle Wick received her Christmas wish to return “home” on December 24, 2015. She passed away peacefully in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, with her daughter, Tracella, by her side. Elaine was born to Sarah and Albert King August 1, 1925, in Mountrail County, North Dakota. She was one of eight children and grew up during the depression. Elaine learned responsibility early, working throughout high school and joining the U.S. Signal Corps upon graduation. In 2008, while on vacation, she revisited the old boarding house she once shared with her fellow corps members. In 1945, she married Harold “Zip” Wick. She settled into farm life and became a devoted wife, mother and homemaker in New Rockford. The Wick home was a popular gathering spot for family, friends and neighbors. After completing chores at the farm everyone gathered around the old table in Elaine’s kitchen. To her dying day, Elaine’s favorite moments were those spent with her children. She will be fondly remembered for such “mom”eries as the smell of homemade bread, family dinners, a basement full of canned goods, her proud and protective nature, and Christmases when family presence meant more than presents. Just days before her death she was baking her oft’ requested homemade buns for Christmas dinner. Moving to Rapid City, South Dakota, in 1984, Elaine worked for Black Hills Workshop, managing a group home for disabled adults where her daughter, Kristina, still resides. She and Zip enjoyed retirement in the Black Hills, the mild winters, helping raise grandkids, the aspens turning in the fall, the Sturgis Rally, volunteering for the Catholic Church and hosting family gatherings. Elaine enjoyed sewing, singing, dancing, was an avid quilter and played a mean game of pinochle. Sadly, she has danced her last dance on earth reuniting with Zip, her partner of 63 years, her parents, Sarah and Albert King, four brothers, Jerome, Howard, Harold, Thomas and one sister Marguerite Anderson. Elaine is survived by her two sisters, Maxine Byrum and Devonne Anderson, 13 children, Ronald, LaDonna (Rolfson), Sandra (Merle Longnecker), Joni, Sara (Andre Plaskota), Harold (Lorra), Rudolph (Kathy), Howard, Timothy (Stacie), Roger, Tracella (Dan Painter), Kristina, Melissa (Keith Boutwell), 20 grandchildren Erling (Patricia) Rolfson, Stephanie Rolfson, Kimberly (Michael) Vannett, Eric (Lisa) Longnecker, Whitney Ray, Hunter Ray, Harrison Wick, Kelsey (Sean McMechen), Jacob Wick, Sarah Wick, Grace Wick, Lilly Wick, Lane Wick, Andrew Wick, Zachary Wick, Nathan Wick, Rose Mae Wick, Eleanor Wick, Trinity Wick, Casey (Tom) Sams and 11 great grandchildren Simon, Natalie and Joseph Rolfson; Alexis, Remington and Samantha Vannett; Riley, Tucker and Cassie Longnecker; Carter and Josephine Sams.
