Elizabeth Fulton was born in Liverpool, England on July 27, 1948. She joined parents John and Barbara, and was the second youngest of a large family including brothers John, and Malcolm and sisters Mabel, Kathleen, Barbara and Margaret. As a child she was funny, free spirited, and daring. She kept her mom on her toes falling out of windows and out of trees but always bounced back. Her fearless, fighting spirit would carry her through many obstacles that would have defeated others. Liz relied on her faith, friends, and family through the loss of her parents, siblings, and son Marcus in 2003. Liz had a passion for working with and for others. She worked at the Catholic Church in New York after following her mom to the States from Liverpool as a young, independent woman. She continued a life of service to others in many professions including running retirement homes, teaching, volunteering for CASA and caring for her father in England. Liz not only provided care but also was generous, warm, and humorous. She delighted in sharing stories and used this talent to write a novel about a young woman in England during the Second World War. The Sorrows of Sadie was written under Liz’s pen name Sarah Ashton and was a work in progress that she continued to format and share with the world through print and Amazon. The novel is a beautifully written, powerful story of a strong, passionate and independent woman much like Liz. Liz’s fierce independent story line took her to Rapid City where she moved with her young son Paul 31 years ago as a single mom. Here Liz found her home and place and she raised Paul, learned to drive a car in the Black Hills, and obtained her citizenship. Liz was very proud of her citizenship and shared the memory of that day fondly as the day Paul rented a limousine to surprise her as she realized her American dream. This story among others was a happy one that she would share with her guests over a cup of tea. Liz was known for her English tea and loved to have company over as well as her family. She thrived in social situations and her beautiful English voice could be heard on the radio station at KOTA. Being a DJ was just one of the many hats Liz wore wonderfully. Liz was a loving mother to her son Paul, his wife Cyndi and a devoted Nana to her granddaughter Lucy. We will miss her in our lives.
