Obituary For Estella Jane Goldberg
Estella Jane \"Scotty\" Goldberg, age 81, passed away on Sunday, May 13th,2018
Scotty was born on September 19th,1936 at the New Underwood Hospital in South Dakota to parents Orra and Esta Gray (Fortune). The family had a homestead north of New Underwood and later moved to Rapid City, SD.
She spent her life between South Dakota and Wisconsin before finally settling in Missouri.
In 1972, a longtime friend introduced her to a gentleman serving at Ellsworth Air Force Base. She married Lew Goldberg on July 20th, 1976 in Madison, Wisconsin, and they were able to share 41 long and happy years together. Scotty became interested in her families’ genealogy. Over the years hearing stories about our ancestors her Great grandson Lewis shared this passion. Scotty owned the Aardvark Bookstore in Madison with best friend Shirley, allowing her to spend many years surrounded by books—one of her true passions. Most days she could be found with a book in her hand, and a Boston Terrier by her side. They brought much joy to her life and were thought of as family members. Scotty was always full of joy and took great pride in raising her family. Although she only had one child herself, Scotty raised numerous other children including grandchildren. She was esp. proud of getting to know her great-great-grandson, Tyne. Scotty brightened her surroundings—whether it be a family gathering, or a VSPA reunion, which she enjoyed attending regularly. There was always a lot of laughter and storytelling when Scotty was around!
Scotty is survived by her husband, Lew; daughter, Shelly (Steven Paulson) Dillon; stepchildren, Lonnie Dillon, Paul Dillon, Dan (Susan) Goldberg, Ian Goldberg and Corinne (Bruce) Patterson; grandchildren, Kim (Todd) Taylor, Eden Dillon, Bryn Goldberg and Shelby (Luke) Starke; great grandchildren, Sadie Dillon, Collin McCracken and Lewis Dillon; and great-great-grandson Tyne McCracken; Siblings, Kenneth (Geraldine) Gray, and Darlene (Earnest) Henderson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Mark, Todd, Wendy, Kenton, Brian, Terry, Jack and Samantha.
Scotty truly missed the black hills and visited yearly. In her last days she would just smile and say, “My daughter came to take me home to the Black Hills.\"
