Esther May Zimmerman (Franke), 90, Keystone, SD, passed away on August 9 at Clarkson Health in Rapid City, SD. She was born in Gettysburg, SD to Quintus and Pauline Franke on July 7, 1930. They moved to Belle Fourche SD where Esther attended school and graduated from Belle Fourche High School. She married the love of her life, Donald Jay Zimmerman on July 7, 1951. They lived in Rapid City, SD. On March 17, 1952, their daughter Sandra Zimmerman (McLain) was born. Esther had a few part-time jobs including a clerk at the Rose Marketeria, cleaning houses and eventually owning her own business called the “Reddi Rite Rubber Stamps in Rapid City along with her husband. Her most important job was her family. Esther was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She spent an enormous amount of time with her family. Members of her family were the most important people in her life and brought great pleasure to her. Esther is survived by Sandra McLain (daughter), Adam McLain grandson (Kelli), great grandchildren (Carrera, Izabella, Caroline, Alexia, and Warren), Michael McLain grandson (Melissa), great grandchildren (Otto, Claira), Quintus Jr. Franke brother, Charles Franke brother (Verna) and a special friend, Chuck McLain. Esther had a large family and had multiple cousins too numerous to mention but considered to be very important. Esther is preceded in death by her dearly beloved husband Donald Zimmerman, her sisters, Phyllis Dykes, LaVerne Estes, and brother, Duane Franke. Some very important things for everyone to know about Esther is that she will be missed so much. Her family, no matter who they were, loved her from the bottom of their hearts. Her kindness, compassion and willingness to share was monumental, something everyone will remember. She was a model for a super grandma and great grandmother that anyone would want. She loved all animals. Her weakness, she was not a good driver and I am sure everyone, would have a story to share and experience as they rode with her. All of us have lost people who were very important in our lives. One thing we have to remember is this quote that was shared to us from a dear friend. When important people pass: “Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and held so dear.”
