Eve Goodwon Lake, 91, passed away on August 16, 2022, in Tucson, Arizona. Eve was born in Lamar, Colorado, the youngest of John and Sylvia Goodwon’s 6 children. During the Great Depression, Eve said she didn’t realize they were poor because everyone was poor. She enjoyed the adventures of her childhood there before her parents moved the family to California for a better life. Eve was working in Missoula, Montana, when she was 17 and met Robert Lake, a forestry student at the University of Montana, at a roller-skating rink. They knew on their third date that that they would spend their lives together. On December 22, 1948, Bob and Eve were married in Rapid City, where his parents and siblings lived. Their son, Michael, was born 9 months later, followed by daughters Cindy and Jennifer as Bob began his career in the U.S. Forest Service, starting first in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The family moved to several states as Bob’s career advanced, and Eve always made a wonderful home for them wherever they went. A favorite for all was Juneau, Alaska, where she prepared meals of the salmon and halibut that she and Bob and the kids caught in the family boat and the moose that Bob, and Mike when he was old enough, hunted and brought home in the fall. Everywhere the family moved, Eve used her positive attitude and grace to make sure that the family adjusted well and thrived. Visiting historical sites, bike-riding, and canoeing were favorite activities. During the later years in the Washington DC area, where Bob’s career took him and after the kids were grown, Eve began a career as a social worker, serving the senior citizens in her area by getting them any type of help they needed, ranging from medical care, living arrangements, and nutritious meals to fun activities. From raising three small children in Forest Service barracks without running water or electricity to socializing with senators, congressmen, and leaders in the Department of Agriculture in Washington DC, Eve was always confident, graceful, and elegant. When Bob and Eve retired, more adventures began, as they traveled the country in their recreational vehicle for two years. They returned to Rapid City for several years and then moved to Tucson in 1990, where Eve won shooting events in the Senior Olympics. She also became an excellent tennis player and loved to swim. Very grateful for the blessing of Eve in their lives are her beloved husband of nearly 74 years, Bob, and their 3 children. She is also survived by 2 sons-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 2 grand sons-in-law, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings and two sisters-in-law.
