Obituary For Gary D Holcombe
Gary Douglas Holcombe passed away on July 20, 2022, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while vacationing in South Dakota. Gary was born on October 15,1955 in Laurel, Mississippi; he was 66 years old. At 18 years of age, Gary went to work for Otis Engineering working on offshore oil rigs. Halliburton subsequently purchased Otis where Gary continued a successful career that spanned 45 years until he retired in early 2020. Gary held several senior positions at Halliburton including Global Account Manager and finished his career as the Business Development and Training Lead for completion tools where he had the opportunity to use his expertise and knowledge to train Halliburton employees across the world. Gary worked, traveled, and conducted training in Australia, Dubai, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UK, Africa, Oman, and Columbia, and spent considerable time on overseas assignments living in Scotland and Norway. Gary is survived by his wife of 16 years Deborah Holcombe and their six children, son, Christopher Holcombe (wife Annice Holcombe), daughter Lindsey Holcombe (fiancé Adam Douglas), sons Alexander Holcombe, Andreas Holcombe, and Adrian Holcombe, and stepdaughter Lauren Parker, his three grandchildren, William Holcombe, Pierce Douglas, and Calvin Holcombe, and his brother Don Holcombe (sister-in-law Jan Holcombe). Gary is preceded in death by his father and mother William and Evelyn Holcombe. Gary was an artisan and had a passion for woodworking and handcrafted items such as custom cutting boards, writing instruments, and laser engraved items. His attention to detail and unique designs made his pieces special to those who owned them. He also had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles. He and his cousin and riding partner Mike Ishee successfully completed the Tail of the Dragon, America’s No.1 motorcycle road trip and completed the “Iron Butt” challenge riding 1,000 miles in 24 hours. Gary’s greatest love was his family and his loyal Cairn Terriers, Riley and Randall, who always greeted him with wagging tales and plenty of wet kisses. One of his favorite pastimes was connecting with his sons who live across the United States and in Norway to play PS4 games.
