Obituary For Gerald Alfred Borresen

Gerald (Jerry) Borresen was born in Chicago, IL on April 13, 1932. He spent most of his school years and youth in Sioux Falls, SD. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 as a corpsman. After serving 4 years in the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Virginia (Plouffe) Borresen of Rapid City, SD on June 11, 1953.

Jerry and Virginia had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Out of this marriage, Jerry and Ginny had two amazing sons; Mark Borresen (Terry Borresen) and Rand Borresen (Lori Borresen). He once again enlisted in serving his country but now in the United States Air Force. He served in this branch approx. 6 years. While enlisted, Jerry and Ginny enjoyed living in many different cities. Starting in Rapid City, SD, Cheyenne, WY, Taipei, Taiwan, Sumter, South Carolina, and Milwaukee, WI. Jerry returned to Rapid City as the business owner of ALCO Adjustment Co. and Borresen Insurance Agency until his retirement.

Once retired, Jerry and Ginny settled in California where Jerry worked part time in various jobs, which were more hobbies than work. Jerry had many hobbies that kept him and Ginny busy over the years. His love of flight gained him a pilots license in 1967 at age 35, then receiving his commercial pilots license in 1969. Jerry (KROF) spent many hours on Amateur Radio or known as Ham Radio. This kept him connected with many friends all over the US. Jerry and Ginny loved taking rides on their motorcycle; even riding to CA for their 25th wedding anniversary. He treasured times spent with his 4 grandchildren; Aubrey (Craig) Oyler of Rapid City, SD, Brent (Karabeth) Borresen of Rapid City, SD, Jerad Borresen of Murrieta, CA, and Natalie Borresen of Murrieta, CA. Great grandchildren; Brooklynn Oyler, Trevor Oyler, Anastelle Borresen and Isabelle Borresen all of Rapid City, SD.

Jerry’s last days were bravely fighting lung cancer in which took his life on August 28, 2018 with his family by his side. He will forever be flying in the clouds watching over his family.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
