Obituary For Glenys P. Gerlach

Glenys Simmons Madsen Gerlach, 78, Rapid City died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospice House, after a long illness.Glenys was born Aug. 11, 1929 to George W. and Esther (Stubbe) Simmons. Her family lived in Rapid City where she attended grade school and high school. She also attended college at SDSM&T and National College. She married Donald C. Madsen on Dec. 24, 1948. They resided in New Underwood where they had a farming and ranching operation. Her lifetime profession was a certified Genealogist, for over 40 years. She was a member of the Genealogist Society; the Society of Mayflower Descendents and D.A.R. She enjoyed sailing, quilting and computer research. On May 6, 1982, she married Richard Garth Gerlach and they resided in Rapid City. Glenys is survived by her five children, Valerie (Carl) Duwenhoegger, Rapid City; Ellen (Al) Votroubek, Newcastle, WY; Dawn (Steve) Wood; Randy (Kathy) Madsen, Mart Madsen, all of New Underwood; 4 stepchildren, Monte Gerlach, Ricky (Kathy) Gerlach; Junal Gerlach; Audrey Pooley; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and one brother, Chuck Simmons, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Gerlach, Nov. 13, 2002; her twin sister Marlys Bren; two sisters, Jean Smith, Bette Peden and one brother Ray Simmons.
