Obituary For Gregory P Phillips

Gregory Patrick Phillips, 65, of Burbank IL, passed away peacefully in his home on June 27, 2022 in Rapid City SD.

Greg was born in Chicago IL to Dorothy and Clinton Phillips on December 24, 1956.

He attended Reavis High School in Burbank IL and graduated in June, 1975. He married Dee Sawicki on February 10, 1979.

Greg served in the USAF for 22 yrs. between 4 stateside bases and 2 overseas locations: Incirlik AFB in Incirlik, Turkey and Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan.

Upon retirement and for the next 10 years he worked in, and eventually managed, the Walmart Meat Department in Rapid City SD. Greg had many outside interests. Music was his first love from the Beatles to Queen. He loved to sit down and play his guitar and learn their music and many others. He loved to fish… anytime. He loved golf and played a good amount in Turkey, and would always look forward to playing with his big brother Gene when visiting Chicago. He loved baseball and played for years as a child and teenager. He was a die-hard Cubs fan for life and wanted to return some day to Wrigley Field for one last game.

He is survived by his wife Dee of 43 yrs., daughter Joanne, sons Clint and Steven, and daughters-in-law Bonnie and Michelle. Together they have 5 grandchildren: Averi, Oliver, Xander, Adrian and CJ.

Greg is also survived by his 4 brothers: Gene, Cliff, Dale and Ted Phillips, their spouses Lynette, Sylvia and Donna; and his nieces and nephews Scott, Eric, Sheila, Shawn, Alex and Kevin. He is preceded in death by his loving nephew Mark Phillips.

He was a loving soul to all he touched. So many friends and co-workers would say he was “the nicest person they ever met or worked with.” He was the “real deal” and will be greatly missed.
