Obituary For Gwenith Yvonne Garwood

On July 29, 2019, Gwenith Yvonne “Gwen” Garwood, formerly of Casper, WY, peacefully donned her Angel’s Wings at Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota. Gwen was born in St. Paul, Minnesota April 4, 1935. She met and married Bill Garwood in Scobey, Montana on June 26, 1954. During her 84-plus years she lived and worked in the oil fields in Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. Gwen led a great life with many adventures. She had two children, Craig and Carol. They lived in various places in MT, ND, and Wyoming, working in the oilfields and finally settling down in Linch, WY. After many years there, Gwen and Bill moved to Casper and retired. She had spent the last 29 years in Casper before moving to Rapid City to be closer to Carol. During her working years, she would giggle that “she chased truck drivers” as she drove a pilot car for heavy equipment like the oil rigs, mining equipment and yes, she even flagged for a sail boat going through Wyoming one time. These adventures took her to places like New York, Louisiana, Canada, Washington state, and even DC. She met and made wonderful friends everywhere but never forgot those long-ago friends. She was always a busy girl. After retirement, she stayed busy with the many passions of hers, most importantly flowers/plants; she was also an avid reader Gwen’s quick wit, sincerity, and boundless affection rubbed off on all those around her, and were the reason for her having such a huge “adopted family”, most recently among the nurses and aides at Hospice House and Rapid City Regional Hospital. Gwen is survived by her son Craig (Becky) of Gillette and daughter Carol (Bradee) Beard of Rapid City, South Dakota, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous furbabies.
