Obituary For Hazel F. Knight

Hazel M. Knight, 89, passed away at her Rapid Valley home Sunday evening Oct. 22, 2006. She was born Jan. 9, 1917 at Dalzell, SD in Meade Co. to Web and Sylvia (Richards) Fenner, the second of 6 children. She attended grade school at Dalzell and high school in Wasta. Hazel was married to James S. “Sig” Knight in Rapid City on Jan. 6, 1937. To this union was born one son, Thomas. Hazel and Sig both worked in the Bremerton, WA shipyard during WWII. She operated a crane for the war effort. They returned to Rapid City following the war where Hazel worked for the Yellow Cab Co. dispatching and also driving cabs. Later she worked as a clerk for Art’s Liquor store and retired from there in 1979. Hazel was a born caregiver and practiced it her entire life having helped to care for her younger siblings while still at home and she also cared for others’ children in her own home. She helped to care for both her parents in their declining hears and has shared her home with her widowed son and also a grandson. She was never happier than when she could be practicing her homemaking skills for her families and friends enjoyment. In her leisure time she watched the “soaps”, read and played cards. Hazel was a member of the Rapid Valley Fire Dept. Auxiliary.She was preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, her daughter-in-law Donna; 2 brothers, Allen and Harvey Fenner; 1 sister Opal Sieh; 1 sister-in-law Jean Fenner and 2 brothers-in-law Edgar Moore and George Gonzalez. Having been proud to share her life and will miss her forever are her son Tom Knight, Rapid City; grandchildren, Kelly, TJ, Greg and wife Trish; great grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew Knight; two sisters, Louise Gonzalez, Stockton, CA; Ruby Moore, Black Hawk; one sister-in-law, Florence Fenner, Spearfish; one brother-in-law, Clifford Sieh, Wasta; her card partner, Mary and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and her many friends.
