Obituary For Henry H. Burkhart

Henry H. Burkhart, age 91, of Rapid City, South Dakota passed away July 7, 2023, at Brookdale Southside Senior Assisted Living Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Henry was born December 27, 1931, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Paul and Minnia (Kohlmann) Burkhart. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. During his time in the Air Force, he attended Aircraft Mechanic School and Instrument Control School and was assigned to the 98th Bomb Wing with duty assignments in England, Tripoli, and Italy where he worked on and flew on C47’s and B-29s. While in the Air Force Henry met and married his wife Shirley (Porter) Burkhart. They were married for 64 years. After leaving the Air Force, Henry worked for over 30 years at Ellsworth Air Force Base as a Civilian in the Civil Engineering Group and held many different Supervisory positions.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, brothers Rex, Carl, Joseph, Harold and Bill, sisters Inie McClannahan and Marjorie Layton.

Henry is survived by his son, Robert Burkhart, granddaughter Brooke Burkhart, grandson Andrew Burkhart, granddaughter-in-law Stephanie Burkhart and 5 great grandchildren of Jacksonville Florida.

    Henry, it's been many years since I saw you last. You always treated Bob's friends with respect when we were growing up in Rapid City. We have so many fond memories from those years.
