Obituary For James Louis Reed

James L. Reed, passed away peacefully on April 23rd, in Rapid City, SD at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Jim was born to Fred and Agnes (Gajewski) Reed in Saginaw, MI on May 14th, 1942. He attended schools in Bridgeport, MI and joined the United States Air Force in January 1961 and was stationed in Minot, ND. There he met his first wife, Vanda Felchle. They were wed in January 1963 and to that marriage were born two children, Lauri and James (Jim). In July 1988 he married Carol Schock and became a step-father to Marcus and James Schock. Jim and Carol called Bismarck home for many years and in 2010 they moved to Rapid City, SD

Jim served in the United States Air Force for four years. Upon his discharge, he and his family moved to Saginaw, MI. During this time he worked at the Chevrolet Foundry. In 1967 they moved to Bismarck, ND where he then worked for the Sweetheart Bakery. He joined the Bureau of Reclamation in 1969 and worked there until his retirement in 1995. He was well known by land owners in the Harvey area as a fair and reasonable negotiator, as he negotiated the land purchases for the McClusky Canal. After retirement he enjoyed life on the Missouri River. His favorite pastime was fishing with his buddies and grandchildren, hunting, going out to eat and spending time with his children and their families.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Reed, his daughter, Lauri Reed Eckmann (Kevin), Waukesha, WI, James Reed (Ann), Baxter, MN, Marcus Schock (Amber), Evans, GA and James Schock (Cicely), Sioux Falls, SD., grandchildren, Rachel and Kylie Eckmann, Nicholas, Lauren and Grace Reed, Tanner Stephens and Sara Schock and Emma and Ryan Schock. He is further survived by his sisters, Janet (John) Kelly, Birch Run, MI, and Debbie (Jack) Zeitler, Bridgeport, MI, brother Fred Reed, Bay City, MI, sister-in-law, Donna Reed, Bridgeport, MI., brother-in-law, Bruce Barnes, Denver, CO., brother and sister-in-law Evan and Lori Barnes, Rapid City, SD and sister-in-law Ellen Bishop, Rapid City, SD and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, his brother, Richard Reed, his sister-in-law, Ingrid Reed, his brother-in-law Greg Bishop, and many extended family.
