James Michael Scares The Hawk affectionately known as Jim or Jimmy, entered into rest on December 13, 2024 at the age of 66. Surrounded by loved ones at Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. Jim was born on February 7, 1958 in Old Cheyenne Agency, SD to Raymond and Flora (Village Center) Scares The Hawk. Raised in Eagle Butte, his education led him to enlist in the Job Corps in Montana where he embraced opportunities and laid the foundation for his 25 years spent working at the GCC Dacotah in Rapid City, from which he was respected for his dedication and hard work.

A beloved husband and family man, Jim treasured spending quality time with his doting wife Vonnie to whom he shared a loving ten-year marriage.

Jim had a warm and humorous personality, marked by his humility, that endured him to many. A proud Sundancer, he was fluent in Lakota and embraced his cultural heritage with pride. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life; you could usually find Jimmy either jamming to his infinite 80's rock playlist or tuning in to watch his favorite football team, the Oakland Raiders play.

Jim is survived by his wife Yvonne Scares The Hawk, his brother Steven Scares The Hawk, sisters Marjorie and Iris Scares The Hawk and Deb Stands Hawk. His first wife Stacey Low Dog, Sons Darnell, Desmond, Lance and Kellen Scares Hawk. Step-Sons Chris (Amelia) Nick, and Josh (Cassie) Thurman. Grandchildren Autumn and Trinity Darnell, Jr. Step-Grandchildren Tristen, Acadia, Lilcie, Hayden, Ilee, Josh, Riley, and Emilia Thurman. Kyron, Avianna and Oakley Ford.

Jim was preceded in death by, his parents Raymond and Flora Scares The Hawk, son Dimitri, sisters Dawn, Mary Patricia and Alice Cares The Hawk.
