Obituary For Janet K. Amundson

Janet Kay (White) Amundson, age 70, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on December 30, 2023. She was one of 11 children born November 16, 1953, in Rapid City, SD to Ruth and Alfred White. She attended Rapid City Public Schools and graduated from Central High School with honors in 1972.

While in high school, she became employed with Pacific Fruit in the office. She remained there when they changed to Food Services of America, where she worked up to the position of Credit Manager. She worked for these companies from 1972 – 1994, when they closed their doors and moved out of state. In 1994, with her accounting expertise, she began working for Clinical Laboratories of the Black Hills as an Administrative Assistant with various other duties until she retired on December 31, 2019.

Janet met the love of her life Ralph Amundson in 1970 and were married on May 19, 1973. In 2023, they celebrated a milestone anniversary, 50 years of marriage. In their loving marriage, they were blessed with two children, a son, Justin Amundson born February 1978, and a daughter, Alicia Amundson born December 1984.

The things Janet held most dear in life were her family, friends, tradition, and faith. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother and keeping family traditions going. She had a loving and giving spirit. She supported her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in all their activities and sporting events. She always tried to be present at as many events as possible and would root them on, often traveling far distances.
