Obituary For Janice Marie Stark
Janice Marie Stark passed away peacefully Thursday February 29th at the age of 88, heaven welcomed an Angel.
Janice was born in rural Schleswig, Iowa to Evelyn and Harry Hamann on December 1st, 1935. She was the eldest of four children, Darrell, Ernie and Connie. They were a farming family in Schleswig, IA and in Mitchell, SD and later in Pierre, SD. She graduated in 1954 as Valedictorian from Riggs High School in Pierre, SD. In 1956 she met the love of her life, Norman Stark. They were married at Memorial Lutheran Church on October 7, 1956. From this marriage three children were born: Timothy, Lori and Jeffrey. She started her working career as secretary for the state of South Dakota including the Secretary to the Secretary of State, Lorna Herseth. In 1975 the family relocated to Rapid City, SD. She continued her administrative career working for numerous non-profit agencies and was proud of her position as Clerk of Magistrate Courts for Pennington County. Following this prominent position, she continued her career as Legal Secretary for several local lawyers. She retired in 1997 to enjoy more time with family.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Darrell and Ernie and her husband Norman. She is survived by her sister Connie (Paul) Schumacher, children Timothy (Pamela) Stark, Cheyenne WY, Lori Stark-Kasley, Rapid City, SD and Jeffrey(Kathy) Stark Brandon, SD. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brandon, Elizabeth, Cameron, Allison, Thomas, TJ and Sam; along with eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday; March 6, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at the South Canyon Lutheran Church located at 700 44th Street, Rapid City SD on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at 2:30 pm at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation to your favorite charity in Janice’s name would be appreciated.
