Obituary For Johnny Lee Root
Johnny Lee Root, 66, died Tuesday, at Prairie Hills Retirement Center, Rapid City.
He was born June 15, 1952 in Rapid City, SD to Charles LeRoy ‘Chuck’ and Darlene (Fischer) Root. Johnny grew up and attended schools in Rapid City.
He entered the US Army in 1969, serving during the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles and was later honorably discharged.
Upon his discharge, Johnny returned to Rapid City and got married.
He was a member of a band called “Dakota Band” later named the “Justus Band”.
He is survived by daughters, Linna, Amanda and Reinna Root, son, John Charles Root; step sons, Thomas Martin, Jamie Schultz; numerous grandchildren and a sister, Mary Beckman.
