Obituary For Joyce L. Strain
Joyce Strain passed way on July 1, 2023, at Serenity Place, St. Martin’s Village. Joyce was born to Esther and William (Pete) Cassity on December 9, 1938, in Hot Springs, SD. She was raised with her two brothers, Jerry and Wayne, in the Hot Springs area, where she enjoyed a large and loving extended family.
Joyce was Ms. Hot Springs; this is important to note because she made everyone around her feel joy and comfort. This was a highlight of her youth, and she reminded us of it often.
On May 27, 1958, she wed James Strain. They had three children, Stewart, Steven, and Nancy. After living in Hot Springs, they moved their family to Martin, SD. Joyce had many friends and wonderful neighbors there. Joyce was also a top-notch ranch wife in the Belvidere ranch area. She fed her cowboys well and made the bunkhouse a warm welcoming home. Joyce and Jim then moved to Rapid City where she was a highly requested substitute teacher and the best grandmother to her eight grandchildren. This fine Irish woman will be missed by many and extremely welcomed in the Afterlife!
