Obituary For Katherine Sollid

Katherine Rose Sollid, 94, of Rapid City, SD passed away on Mach 23, 2018 at home surrounded by family and friends.

Katherine was born in Imlay, SD to Ray Keester and Susie (Harvey) Keester on February 14, 1924. She grew up in the country near the Badlands and on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation with which she shared lots of magnificent stories/memories. She married Joseph Sollid in 1942 and together they raised 3 children; Loveletta, Joseph ‘Tommy’ and Victor. She also helped raise some of the next two generations as well. Approximately ten years after getting married, her mother, Susie helped get her a job at (IHS) Sioux San Hospital, where they worked together for some time as Dieticians. Katherine went on to work there for 22.5 years and was a very dependable, outstanding employee. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends very much. She absolutely loved “all” people, didn’t have a mean bone in her body, and was a devout Christian.

Katherine is survived by her daughter, Loveletta Gibson (Ted) of Rapid City; Three grandchildren, Jorja York of Rapid City, Nick York (Noel) of Oklahoma, and Joseph ‘Tony’ Sollid of North Carolina; Seven great grandchildren, Ranson and Brandine of Rapid City, Holly and Reath of Oklahoma, Jason, Zachary, and Austin of North Carolina; Four great-great grandchildren, Jovani and Tatiana of Hill City, Gage and Jayden of Rapid City; One sister, Grace Hern (Dan); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both sons, parents, and five of her six siblings.
