Obituary For Kevin K. Hintz

Kevin K. Hintz, 70, of Rapid City passed away with loved ones at his side on Saturday, January 6th, 2023 at the Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

He was born on December 9th, 1953 in Bismarck, ND. Kevin was the youngest son of Edetta M. (Kuch) Hintz and George W. Hintz. He grew up in Hannover, ND and graduated from high school in Center, ND. He graduated from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. In 1974, married Merylin Cahoon and had two daughters, Brandee and Gina. In 1984, he married Judith (Judy) Knudsen and had his third daughter Suzanne (Suzi). They lived happily in the Black Hills in South Dakota for many years. Unfortunately, Judy passed away on December 28th, 2000. Thankfully, he met Debbie (Spinar) Smits and they married in 2006. They enjoyed 18 wonderful years together spending time in Rapid City and in Pierre where they had a lake house and loved boating and fishing. Kevin and Debbie adored their dachshund, Roxy, who loved to go on rides with them in the truck and the boat. Debbie was lovingly and constantly at Kevin’s side, especially over the past year through his battle with lung cancer. Kevin was always busy with house projects, woodworking, maintaining his beautiful yard and gardens. He loved his family and making holiday meals with his famous smoked turkey. He worked at Hillyard as a Branch Manager and retired in January 2021.

Survivors include his loving wife Debbie Hintz, Black Hawk, SD; three daughters Brandee (Nathan) Williamson, Coto de Caza, CA; Gina Hintz, Corona Del Mar, CA; Suzi (Bryan) Hinck, Minneapolis, MN; and one step-daughter Angel Smits, Rapid City, SD. Grandchildren include Dylan and Hudson Pacillio, Paislee Williamson (Brandee and Nathan Williamson); Lucy and Zoey Hinck (Suzi and Bryan Hinck); Abbie (TyRoy) Grant, Brandon Johannesen (Angel Smits). Great grandchildren include Boone Grant (Abbie and TyRoy Grant). Siblings include Adrene Graf, Bismarck, ND; Beverly (Henry) Schatz, Bismarck, ND; Karlton Hintz, Chadron, NE; and Jeannette Christensen, Pittsburgh, PA.

The family of Kevin Hintz wishes to extend thanks to Monument Health Hospital, Monument Health Hospice House, and Monument Health Cancer Care Institute.

Flowers may be sent to Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Monument Health Cancer Care Institute or the Monument Health Hospice House.

My deepest condolences to the family. Kevin was my Hillyard Sales Rep for 25 years here at the Douglas School. He was always so kind and we always ended up visiting about more than just supplies. It was hard when he retired as he always stopped by, and I missed those times. He was a great man and loved what he did and more importantly loved his family. - Posted by Juanita Harrington on January 11, 2024
