Obituary For Kristi Jo Schultz

Kristi Jo Schultz (Kane), 62, of Hot Springs SD passed away on February 9, 2020 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Kristi was born in Luverne Rock Minnesota to Patricia (Bell) and Thomas Kane on September 18, 1957. She graduated High School from Agar SD in 1976. She was married to James Seaman from 1978-1982, and from this union 3 children were born. In 1983 she then set out on a new adventure to become a full-time college student, in Spearfish SD, where she met friends that became family and a new life for her and her children. In September 1987 she married Robert Schultz, and they spent 31 years together before his passing in 2018. She graduated from Black Hills State University with a Bachelors in Science Degree in 1988. She then moved to Rapid City SD and began her career as a Case Manager for The Salvation Army, and started working on her Master of Science Degree from South Dakota State University that she received in May 1992. Her passion for helping people opened many doors and opportunities for her as she was a member of the Rapid City Homeless Coalition, did payee services, and worked closely with many other outreach programs and organizations throughout the Black Hills. In 2000 she made the leap and started her new adventure as a Chemical Dependency Counselor, and she started out as a trainee at The Friendship House in Rapid City, SD A year later she accepted a position at Southern Hills Alcohol and Drug in Hot Springs, SD as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. She worked there for 12 years while becoming a Licensed Addiction Counselor, Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor Level III (CCDC III), and a Provisional Trainer of the ASIST workshop for suicide first aid. 2013-2017 She had her own business S&F Services where she provided outpatient treatment, drug and alcohol evaluations, referrals, and individual counseling in Pine Ridge, SD. 2017- 2020 Treatment Coordinator at Anpetu Luta Otipi throughout the Pine Ridge Reservation. Her love for people was apparent everywhere she went and through everything she did. Kristi is survived by Tricia Seaman (Rapid City SD), Jamie Seaman (Hot Springs SD), Chad Seaman (Rapid City SD), Marnie and Todd Basche (Garretson SD), Jacob Martinson (Houston TX), and her 9 grandchildren Kendra, Khari, Karisa, David, Kennedy, Kailei, Parker, Nevaeh, and Brooklyn. Kristi is preceded in death by her mother Patricia Butzman, father Thomas Kane, and husband Robert Schultz.
