Obituary For Larry Painter

Larry Painter, 73, Rapid City, died Friday, October 21, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospice House after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born January 15, 1943 in Rapid City. A true mountain man, he lived most of his adult life in a one room cabin with no running water in the Black Hills where he loved and respected the forest and the wild animals that shared his beautiful domain. As a young man, he won a national art contest which resulted in a scholarship to the Museum Art School in Portland, Oregon, an affiliate of Reed College. Larry was an avid hiker, artist, life-long martial arts practitioner and was always thoughtful and kind. He is survived by his son, Josh Painter, Hastings, MN and his brother Terry Painter, Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarice and Byron Painter of Rapid City.

I was a student at the Museum Art School with Larry. He was a quiet guy and an excellent artist who I admired as the best in our class. He could paint anything, Larry Painter.
