Obituary For Laurence Joseph Mischke

Laurence Joseph Mischke, as known as Larry a beloved member of our Family, passed away on January 16, 2024 at the age of 80 in his hometown of Rapid City, SD.

In the face of serious medical issues in recent years, Larry displayed remarkable courage, always facing life’s challenges with a smile. His unwavering strength and resilience during times of pain earned him the title of a true hero.

As a young boy born and raised in Minnesota , Larry voiced his dream of joining the United States Marine Corps someday. This dream became a reality as he proudly served his country. While in boot camp in Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA, he met the love of his life, Esmeralda Maria Medina. It was love at first sight, and together they embarked on a journey filled with unwavering support and commitment to one another.

Larry and Esmeralda were blessed with three children: Roxanne, Larry, and Harry. As a devoted grandfather, Larry cherished his time with his grandchildren: Vannessa, Lynnete, Laurenza, Oscar, Alexandra, and Aaron.

On the day the Lord called him by his side, Laurence was surrounded by his loving family. As per his wishes, he will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.

In this time of loss, let us remember Larry for the remarkable person he was – a dedicated Marine, a loving husband, a nurturing father, and a doting grandfather. His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy will serve as an inspiration to all of us to face life’s challenges with bravery and a smile.

To the family of Larry Mischke, Larry was my uncle. I am the son of his sister Gladys. He would visit his brother in Minnesota and I remember talking with him. He was a good man. My condolences to the family. -Posted by Jerry Trapp on January 18, 2024

We will remember Larry, Grandpa, as a family man, great story teller, and fellow vet, very proud of his service. His smile was welcoming and evidence of strength and peace through the good and tough times. We saw how he loved his family and felt loved, especially while his Grandaughter, Netty and family cared for him when he needed them most. We believe he left this earth grateful and filled with love and left behind love and joyful memories of times shared with his family. God Bless his family with that strength and peace as they travel this journey knowing he's smiling down from above. - Posted by Linda & Bruce Sampson on January 18, 2024

I used to work where Larry previously lived. I would drive him to appointments and help him in any way I could and I enjoyed visiting with him, he was a very nice man. -Posted by Leslie Davis on January 21, 2024
