Obituary For Lucille M. Strobel
Lucille “Bonnie” (Shear) Strobel went home to Jesus on January 26, 2020, at age 92.
Bonnie was born to Ernest Elsworth and Bertha Ida Emma (Nerenz) Waterland Shear on October 1, 1927 in Bonfield, MT. She graduated from McIntosh High School, McIntosh, SD.
Bonnie met her husband, Delferd D. Strobel, at a dance. She instantly fell in love with his beautiful smile. They married in McLaughlin, SD on February 22, 1946, and went on to have three children, Rodney, Susan and Cheryl. In 1965 they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where they owned and operated the Breeze Inn Best Western and in 1976, after retirement, moved to Rapid City, SD.
In addition to being a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother, Bonnie loved to garden, sew/crochet, read, sing, cook and play games. Bonnie was an active member of Christ Church of Rapid City and was a member of church and community choirs. She volunteered many hours in the community providing support to non-profit agencies. She enjoyed being part of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and greeting visitors at the Chapel in the Hills Gift Shop. In 2009, Black Hills Faces Magazine recognized her for volunteer hours and making the community stronger. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in Jesus, and this was evident in her gentle ways and friendships. She was a loving, caring and gracious person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Her husband, Delferd, her parents and her siblings as well as several brother and sister in laws, and a son-in-law preceded Bonnie in death.
She is survived by her three children, Rodney (Betty) Strobel, Rapid City, SD, Susan Bettmann Patterson, Fremont, NE , and Cheryl (Paul) Kiburz, Marion, IA, sister-in-laws, Freda Strobel, Rapid City, SD, and Gerri Moser, West Covina, CA, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.
