Obituary For Maxine Elaine Mills

Maxine Elaine Mills, 99, of Hill City, SD, and previously of Grants, NM, passed away on March 6, 2024.

Maxine was born in Rapid City, SD to Clifford Oney and Minnie Craven on December 6, 1924. She went to high school in Rapid City, later graduating from the University of NM. She worked as a nurse for Indian Health Service for 35 years starting at Sioux Sanitorium then later throughout Alaska, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Maxine is survived by her two sons Eugene Kendrick (Melba) of Fremont, CA, and Larry Williamson (Lucy) of Hill City, SD, and brother Norman (Myrna) of Hot Springs, SD. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, and many, many special friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 16 at 3:00 PM at the Little White Church in Hill City, SD. Interment will be on a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels of The Black Hills.

    3-21-2024 Today my heart was broken when I stopped at Hillyo apartments in Hill City I just finished my doctor's appointment there in Hill City. I live in Rapid. I was looking so forward to seeing Maxine today and when I went down to her door, I seen that she was no longer there. It just stabbed me in the heart Maxine, I know Maxine from when I did Meals On Wheels . I love that lady so much we had such many good conversations and she was just a gem. I seen her last year for her birthday, and we spent three hours together in her apartment. She was sharp as a tack at her age very kind, kind heart and I just really enjoyed her so I was not expecting that today, but you know what Maxine you're in a better place and I know I will see you up in the heavenly rings. Thank you for all your friendship and thank you for all the good conversations and all the laughs that we had you will always be remembered by me. Love, Debbie. PS, I was so grateful that the neighbor had gave me a teapot that Maxine used to have so I would treasure that forever and I am so sorry for your loss and bless everybody.
