Obituary For McKenzie Josette Garreaux

McKenzie Josette Garreaux, age 16, was born October 21, 2004 to Carl Garreaux and Kristine Martinez. She died August 27, 2021 in Rapid City. She is the youngest to both her mother and father and was definitely the baby in every aspect. She got away with everything because she was the baby and it showed at times. She was such a kind hearted and caring little girl always feeling bad for those less fortunate and would cry when the commercial for abused animals would come on. She found her passion around the second grade when she joined basketball for the first time and had jaws dropping from other parents and she ran up and down the court doing lay ups and ballin’ it up while others her age were just learning and barely remembered to dribble. She counted on playing ball for school, YMCA, Girls’ Club and her travelling team for 6 years and the “Lady War Paths”. She loved her parents who stood by her side through every game. She also loved her brothers and sisters so much. She was devastated when she lost her brother 5 months ago. She was the best aunt to her nieces and nephews anyone could ask for. She loved and cared for them like her own and never grew tired of them. She had a very special relationship with her grandfather, Crist Martinez, as do all of his grandchildren, but she was his baby just as she was to every member of the family. She is survived by her parents, sisters, Santana Martinez, Raven Brown; brothers, Jesse Brown, Tucker, Garreaux, Julian Houston; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Calvin Garreaux, Jr., uncle, Smoky, aunt, Michelle Seymour, paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother.
