Obituary For Melissa Lynn Rains

Melissa Lynn Rains (MISSY): Born May 14, 1969 in Dallas TX to Sharon and Jack Clymer and Passed October 19, 2022 in Rapid City.

She grew up in Dallas most of her life, when Jack and Sharon divorced she moved to California in her early teens with her mom and sister Lori but after a couple of years returned to Dallas and lived with her dad where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school. She went to work as an administrative assistant at different businesses around Richardson. In 1988 she met and Married Manuel Salinas and they had 2 daughters, Kimberly and Kelsey. They divorced in 1992 and she took her daughters and moved to Sacramento CA. In 2007 Missy moved to Rapid City and lived till her death Oct 19, 2022.

Missy struggled with medical issues and mental illness all her life. When came to Rapid City she became a client at Behavioral Management Systems (BMS) and continued there till her death. They worked with her which enabled her to live a self-sufficient life.

She came to Landmark Church through Amy Wilson, and became very involved and soaked up all the lessons presented by Pastor Scott. When the church moved out to its present location Missy volunteered and picked up donuts each Sunday morning as she came out early to listen to the practicing of the Worship Team and help Julie get coffee and donuts before service.

After all was setup she would put her chair at the back of the sanctuary, sit and greeted all with a smile and talked to everyone, like her mother she never met a stranger. Everyone she met in person or on social media groups became her friend.

She became the “Head Cook” for several fund raising events and yearly for every SADER meal. Each summer for VBS she cooked a meal so all the children had something to eat before starting their VBS lessons. Each year Landmark does a Christmas at Landmark and has homemade cookies for all visitors (and staff). Missy took up the Cookie baking and organized people to come one Saturday in November and bake cookies for this. The first year they made about 1,000 cookies by the last year she supervised it, the Landmark Cookie Chefs made over 2,200 cookies. We’re still not sure how many the Pastor and Tony Rhodes tested.

Missy is survived by her mother Sharon Steele, her husband Wesley Steele, Her Father Jack Clymer his wife Georgia, daughters Kimberly Salinas and Kelsey Salinas, brother Vincent Norman his wife Rebeca, sister Lori Snaza, step sisters Tammi Steele and Elizabeth Dollar her husband Tony Dollar. She has 4 grandchildren, Kalina, Makai, Ché, and Kalista. She was preceded in death by her brother Billy Norman.
