Obituary For Michael E Madkins

Michael Elbert Madkins, age 53, went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2022 in Rapid City in his adopted home state of South Dakota. Michael recently ended a 25+ years as a behavioral specialist while working at Sky Ranch and Children’s Home Society in Rapid City. His infectious smile and warm personality enabled him to live out of his passion of being of service to others. Michael is survived by his former wife Karin Auer; parents, Lawrence H. Madkins, Jr. and Shirley Madkins; his sister and brother-in-law, Cherita and Vincent McDaniel; his brother Colonel Lawrence Madkins, III and Teresa Madkins and a host of nieces/nephews. The Madkins family plans to honor Mike with a celebration of his life at a later date. Michael was an avid sportsman and football was his passion. He won many awards as a defensive back/wide receiver at Judson High School in Texas. He also played football at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas; at Chadron State University in Nebraska and at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Mike was proud that he met his football idol, Joe Namath as a child, which motivated him to be a confident football player. Mike had a large circle of friends in South Dakota. Those who wish to honor Mike’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to Front Porch Coalition, 504 E. Monroe St., Rapid City, SD 57701, a not-for-profit outreach to the local community.
