Obituary For Mildred Wynne

Mildred Wynne, 85, Rapid City, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Fountain Springs Health Care.She was born November 20, 1923 in Council Bluffs, IA and moved to Rapid City at age 5. She attended Rapid City schools but took her junior year off to care for her ailing mother and help raise her younger sister and brothers. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1942.Mildred worked for North Western Bell Telephone Company for 10 years as an operator. She married Henry Wynne in 1950 and joined him for 15 years while he was in the US Air Force. They retired to Rapid City in 1965.She worked for Black Hills Workshop from 1969-1973 where she taught “Life Skills”. She also worked as a cashier at Hardware Hank.She enjoyed flowers, playing the piano and helping to raise her only grandson, Anthony. She was a member of the Salvation Army where she did a great deal of volunteer work and also attended as a church member. She is survived by 1 daughter, Laura and husband Jim Smith, Rapid City; 1 son, G. Randall Thomas, Kingston, PA; grandson, Anthony Smith, Mankato, MN; a sister Lois, Rapid City; 3 brothers, Kenneth and Russell, FL and Dale, Rapid City.She was preceded in death by her husband Henry and 3 brothers.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home with Major Robert McClintock of the Salvation Army officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the services.Thank you to the staff of Fountain Springs Health Care for caring for Mildred in her last year of life and also to Drs. Bauman and Purdy and the nursing staff who were there for Mildred.
