Obituary For Myron E. Longden

Myron E. Longden, 81, of Rapid City, SD, passed away on October 5, 2023, with family at the bedside at his home in Rapid City.

Myron was born in Chamberlain, SD to George and Esther Longden on March 4, 1942. He went to school in Chamberlain and attended college at Northern State and later attended the University of South Dakota. He married Marie Vollmer on December 29, 1966, in Minneapolis, MN. Myron had numerous jobs in education for the Todd County School District and attended nursing school in the early ‘90s, then worked for Indian Health Services in Rosebud, SD. He served in the SD National Guard and volunteered numerous hours for several organizations including the Lions, Love Inc., and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Myron was recognized on several occasions for his volunteer efforts.

Myron is survived by his wife Marie, their children Val in North Liberty, IA, Kristy (George) Hubbert in Rapid City, and Natalie (Shawn) Tucker in Gillette, WY; grandchildren Lane (Karlie Dockter) Tucker, Makayla Tucker (Connor Ryan), and Emily Hubbert; one sister Ethel Drube of Milford, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Myron was preceded in death by his parents George and Esther. Myron had a love for dogs with the most recent dog “Boots” who put a smile on his face and brought him joy until the end.

The family of Myron wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Jamie Schaeffer, Monument Health Hospice Care, Monument Heal Cancer Care Unit and Rev Joe Bair and church for all the support.
