Patrick Gerard Dooley 66 of Anaheim, Ca. passed away on March 22,2020 in Rapid City, SD. Patrick was born to Harold Henry and Mary Ellen (Foley) Dooley on August 13, 1953 He was an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. As a young boy, Pat attended St John’s Catholic School where he received his first communion and served as an altar boy. Followed by: North Junior High, Rapid City Central High School, and Black Hills Vo-Tech. Patrick took Gwen Handley’s hand in marriage in a small ceremony at Mother Butler Center, Rapid City SD on August 12, 1977. The two of them took on the world together, owning and operating Quality Roofing Company for 9 years and later moving to Arizona and Southern California while continuing to work in the Roofing Industry. Throughout his career, Pat held positions ranging from an estimator, installer, project manager and consultant. He was also a delegate of the United Union of Roofers, Water-proofers and Allied Workers. Pat was one of the best detail men in the field. He was truly, a pioneer in the Single-Ply Industry. And along the way, he helped over 2000 young people learn the trade which could provide each of them the same opportunities he had been given. Although Pat’s passion kept him laboring on rooftops until recently, it certainly wasn’t limited to his work. His passion seeped into many other aspects of his life. For a time, he was part of the Rapid City Boxing Team where he sparred alongside his brother, Joe. He was a magician when it came to disc jockeying. He could captivate any audience fortunate enough to be caught up in his spell. Pat had the power to shift a room full of strangers into a family with the aid of the right songs at the right time. He was always the life of the party during 4th of July celebrations, making sure you had enough to drink by bringing the liquor store to the house. He also loved to drive. And in some circles, he was better known as “Sling-Shot” for his ability to push a car to its mechanical limits given enough asphalt. There was a time where Pat built his own custom computer towers and sold them. He meticulously researched every part that went into these custom creations. From LED lights and see through cases, to syncing the lights in the room with what was happening on the computer displays. Like many things in life, this could be delicate work with fragile parts in tight spaces. And with the large calloused hands of a seasoned roofer, he periodically relied on Gwen’s more delicate touch to get the parts and pieces to fit together. There is of course much more that could be said of Pat’s list of accolades and hobbies. But for those of us that knew him well, we remember him most by his spirit of selflessness, his humor, and love for his friends and family. Pat and Gwen opened their home and hearts to any of us in need. He never hesitated to do the right thing and lend a hand to those of us with nowhere else to turn. His humor could cut through at the perfect times, even when he wasn’t trying to be funny. Pat came from humble beginnings and was given little in life. What he had, he earned. And what he earned he shared. He is an uncle and friend to many. Pat’s humble spirit will be missed dearly. A private ceremony will be held at Church of Saint Therese on Tuesday, March 31st. Patrick is survived by his wife Gwen, brothers David (Michelle) Dooley, and Joseph (Labrea) Dooley. His godmother Gloria Traversie, his many nieces and nephews, and Albert his dog. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold Henry, and Mary Ellen (Foley) Dooley, grandparents William Claude and Eva Agnes (Foley) Drapeau, George Francis and Elsie Jean (Lulf) Dooley, his brother Daniel Harold, and his niece Mariah Handley.
