Perry Lewis Nolan, 75, of Hermosa, SD died on October 23, 2017 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD.

Perry was born on July 29, 1942 in Hot Springs, SD to Bob and Marie Nolan. He attended elementary and high school in Martin, SD; graduated with a BS Degree in Elementary Education from Black Hills State College in Spearfish, SD; and earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Administration from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.

Perry served in the US Army Security Agency the last 3 years of his 4 year military service in Germany. He was a Rapid City Police Officer for one year until he attended college full time.

On March 7, 1970 he married Margi Kosmicki in Scranton, ND. They had one daughter, Tona and one grandson, Scott Holter.

Perry and Margie lived in Rapid City, SD until Perry graduated and they moved to Scranton where they lived for 19 years. Perry taught 6th grade, served as elementary principle, and taught high school art. He became the superintendent the last 4 years until 1991. The family moved to Minot, ND where he served as elementary principal in Burlington, ND for 5 years. Perry retired from school administration in 1997 when the family returned to the Black Hills to help care for his mother, Marie. Perry was called to teach art at Hermosa Elementary School while Margie worked in the Title I program and in the library. Several years later, Perry served as interim principle for one year at St. Paul’s Elementary School in Rapid City. Perry loved teaching and history so, when asked, taught a summer graduate course on SD history for teachers in 2014.

Perry loved to travel so he and Margie went to Europe for 3 ½ weeks in 1981. After that they traveled throughout the United States for many years, alone as a family or with the Schaff and Dallman families from Scranton. They spent 3 winters in Arizona where they enjoyed the company of many Scranton friends.

Perry will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, practical jokes, and fun-loving spirit.

Perry leaves to mourn: his wife, Margie; his daughter, Tona; and his grandson, Scott; cousins and many life-long friends.
