Obituary For Robbie A. Rombough

Robbie Allen Rombough, 44, passed away Wednesday August 21st, 2024 in Rapid City.

Robbie was born in Belle Fourche, SD, October 19th, 1979. In August of 1983, Robbie and his mom moved to Sioux Falls, SD so she could attend Sioux Falls College. Robbie quickly became loved and adored by many on campus, and he was unofficially deemed the "school mascot." On any given day he could be seen tearing around the sidewalks on his Big Wheel trike. They returned to the beautiful Black Hills in the Spring of 1986. In the spring of 1990, Robbie was lovingly adopted by Nick Rombough.

Robbie completed his General Education Diploma at the age of 18. He attended college at Kansas State University for two years before receiving a Bachelor of Science in Inter-disciplinary Sciences at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in December 2007. Robbie has been working at Fugro (surveying and mapping company) for the past 17 years. He was promoted to a Project Manager the last ten years.

Robbie married Taylor M. Baker on October 2, 2010. They have three fur babies: a French Bulldog named Gnarly, an English Bulldog named Mayhem, and a female English Bulldog named Moo. Robbie also has two Sulcata tortoises named Cecil and Sully.

Robbie has been a motorcycle enthusiast since he was a young child when he received his first dirt bike. Robbie enjoyed spending his days riding in the hills, playing video games and loving his fur babies and tortoises.

Robbie had an engineering mindset that manifested in building projects around his home that he loved. He also enjoyed working on all his motorcycles and cars while his doggies would hang in the garage with him. His favorite part of the day was sitting out on the deck (one that he built by hand) at night and listening to music by the firepit with his beloved dogs.

Robbie is survived by his wife Taylor; his parents Lorri Rombough and Cameron Nick Rombough in Rapid City; brothers Cameron (Meghan) Rombough; Ryan Tripp; sisters Allison (Eric) Munson; Kira (Travis) Anderson; grandmother JoAn Rombough; grandfather Ellis Tripp; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Anne Lundin and Mary Lou Tripp; grandfathers James "Jim" Lundin and Ron T. Rombough; aunt Julie Lundin-Haak; and uncle Lance Rombough.

Per his wishes Robbie was cremated.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 6th at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bob Jacobs officiating. The family of Robbie Rombough thanks you for your presence and support. They invite you for a luncheon and fellowship immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of the Black Hills or to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

I'm sorry I didn't stay for the luncheon following the funeral. There's just no way I could've held myself together, but I wanted so badly to talk to someone. I have so many questions & just wanted to see a familiar face. I know Cameron & Allie don't remember me (Cameron use to call me DeeDee) & aunt Julie is gone. I never saw Nick much, I don't think Lorri liked me very much & I didn't know if Robbies wife would even want to talk to an ex girlfriend. But if anyone has the time & wants to talk my # is 605-209-9869. I probably won't answer a call if I don't know who it is but I will answer a text.

This is killing me..I wish I would've had the guts to contact family..I've been wanting to find Robbie for years. I had no idea he was still in rapid. I was going to share a memory but there are SO many..Robbie was my very 1st serious relationship. I know we were just teenagers but he meant SO much to me! My life would not have been the same at all-I would not be the same had I never met him. It's been 30 years since I've seen or talked to him..I hoped one day we would cross paths & catch up. I will die with regret in my heart for not trying harder to find him. And I will never forget him.
